Sierra Nevada's 30th anniversary Stout

Sierra Nevada's 30th anniversary Stout. Kevin and I uncorked this beer on hot summer day. Probably not the best beer for the heat. But it was drinking awesome. Sierra Nevada's is releasing a total of four anniversary beers this year. All of these beers are collaborations with other breweries. Stay tuned, we will review the rest of them as they get released.

How Jimmy Carter Saved Craft Beer

The Atlantic Wire's Max Fisher came upon a new and interesting fact about Former President Jimmy Carter. It seems that among his many achievements he can also add saving the Craft Beer Industry. Blogger E.D. Kain finds a significant parallel between the boom in the U.S. craft beer industry and the 1979 de-regulation of the beer market, which had been tightly monitored since the end of prohibition.
Kain writes, "When prohibition was lifted, government tightly regulated the market, and small scale producers were essentially shut out of the beer market altogether. Regulations imposed at the time greatly benefited the large beer makers. In 1979, Carter deregulated the beer industry, opening back up to craft brewers. ... You can see how the large brewers continued to consolidate and grow and absorb more and more market share right up to the point where Carter deregulated the industry."

Stoudt's Hefer-in-Wheat Review

We just tapped a keg of Stoudt's Heifer-in-Wheat at Aroma Thyme. So of course Kevin and I went right into video blog mode.
This Bavarian-style unfiltered wheat beer is brewed with 50% malted barley and 50% malted wheat. Our signature blend of German yeast strain imparts a flavor and aroma reminiscent of bananas, cloves and bubblegum.

Beer Confusion| Bear Republic Racer 5 IPA vs Bear Republic Racer 5 IPA bottle vs keg

So I like Bear Republic. But there was a problem with this tasting. We have a mis-labeled kegm it says Racer 5 but it is not even close. And I don't think Bear Republic cares that much.
